Getting a KITAP Indonesia might be the ultimate goal for every foreign citizen planning to stay in the country for a long time as it gives its holder many benefits compared to other stay permits. KITAP Indonesia: when will you need one?
With its natural beauty and friendly people, Indonesia has attracted many foreigners to settle down for a long-term tenure. If you are one of them, you will need KITAP Indonesia to make your new life in the country a lot easier.
For instance, a KITAP allows its holders to stay for up to five years and two years of multiple entries into Indonesia. However, for foreigners who don't enter Indonesia within one year, the validity of KITAP is automatically void.
Once it has expired, KITAP holders have two options; extend it for another five years or convert it into an unlimited KITAP. Once converted into an unlimited KITAP, foreigners only need to report to the Indonesian immigration office once every five years instead of annually.

The Requirement
What are the requirements for KITAP Indonesia?
The Indonesian government only issues a KITAP to foreigners who already hold KITAS (limited stay permit) and sets strict KITAP requirements. Those who are eligible to obtain KITAP Indonesia are:
Foreign investors, directors, or commissioners in a PT PMA (Indonesian investor visa holder for 3 consecutive years)
Foreigners who plan to retire in Indonesia (holders of an Indonesian retirement visa)
Indonesians who are in the process of regaining their citizenship

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about KITAP eligibility, timing, documents, validity, and long-term stay rules in Indonesia.
KITAP, also known as ITAP, is Indonesia's permanent stay permit for eligible foreign nationals who want to live in the country long term.
In general, KITAP is available to foreigners who already hold an ITAS and qualify under immigration categories such as work, foreign investment, family reunification, repatriation, or second home. The exact route depends on your immigration status and supporting documents.
The application for changing status from ITAS to ITAP should be submitted within the 30 days before your ITAS expires.
A KITAP is generally issued for 5 years. It can be extended indefinitely, subject to immigration procedures and eligibility.
KITAS is a limited stay permit for temporary residence in Indonesia, while KITAP is a permanent stay permit intended for longer-term residence with more stability.
Common documents include a valid passport, your current ITAS, an integration statement except for unmarried children under 18, sponsor or guarantor documents where applicable, and additional documents based on your KITAP category.
Yes. ITAP extension can be filed before expiry and is designed to be extendable indefinitely, as long as the holder continues to meet the relevant immigration requirements.
KITAP supports long-term stay in Indonesia, but travel in and out of the country still depends on having a valid re-entry permit in line with immigration rules.
